Free yoga session at library

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Public Library will host a free yoga session at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. This introduction to chair yoga with Martina Mileski is designed for every body — all ages, all mobility and all experience levels. No registration is required; participants can show up at the library, 400 Ludington St., just before start time.

Relic Riders meet Wednesday

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River Relic Riders will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Swallow Inn, 10468 S. Main St. in Rapid River.

St. Thomas sets pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N., will have a pasty sale Wednesday and Thursday. To order in advance, call Carole at 906-786-8656 and indicate with or without rutabaga.

Delta Dems to meet Wednesday

ESCANABA — The Delta Dems will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the USW Hall, 1201 Sheridan Road, Escanaba. Social time begins at 6:30, and the gathering frequently has guest speakers. Bay Sages gather Thursday

ESCANABA — The monthly meeting of Bay Sages will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba.

Bay Sages is an organization established to provide educational opportunities for older adults in the Delta County area. Dues are $20 for the year. Guests and new members are always welcome. Dues are payable at the meeting or can be mailed to Bay Sages at Bay College.

Vickie Micheau, executive director of the Delta County Chamber of Commerce, will give a presentation Thursday on “Building Community and Business Relationships,” focusing on the chamber’s commitment to strengthen the local economy and sense of community.

Items for the Bay College Food Pantry are accepted at all meetings. Payment can also be made for the Dec. 4 luncheon. Cost is $20 per person for a meal of: pot roast, gravy, baked chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, salad, roll and cake. The presenter will be Jeff Anzalone from the Delta County Historical Society. People unable to attend the November meeting but who wish to attend the December luncheon may pay at the door but must call in their reservations by Nov. 19 to Jane at 906-280-2790.

Program on homeless awareness

ESCANABA — The Menominee-Delta-Schoolcraft Community Action Agency will host a Lunch & Learn as well as a donation drive to spread awareness about the homeless from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Escanaba Civic Center, 225 N. 21st St. November is National Homelessness Awareness Month.

MDSCAA suggests a donation of $8. The event will “share information about our services and how you can help a person in need,” according to the MDSCAA flyer for the event.

Elks Auxiliary meeting Thursday

ESCANABA — The Elks Auxiliary’s November meeting will be Thursday. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:45 p.m. and meeting to follow. To make reservations, email to elksauxiliary354@gmail.com or call or text to 906-786-7871; cancellations must be done by noon today.

The group will be collecting nonperishables for the local pantry and hygiene items — deodorant, toothbrushes/paste, body wash, shampoo/conditioner, feminine products, brushes, toilet paper — for students at Rapid River, Escanaba and Gladstone schools.

Immanuel church rummage sale

ESCANABA — Immanuel Lutheran Church will have its annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 600 S. Lincoln Road, next to the Christian Park Center. Clothing, household items, furniture, toys and more will be available. Come before or after the craft sale at the high school. To donate, call or text 906-786-6876 to set up a drop-off time.

Trivia and Tacos night Saturday

ESCANABA — St. Joseph & St. Patrick Parish will host a Trivia and Tacos night Saturday in the parish hall in the basement of the church, 709 First Ave. S. in Escanaba.

Teams of two to six players are eligible to win cash prizes. There will be a taco/nacho bar as well. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., with the first round beginning at 5:30 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

YMCA to have NERF event

ESCANABA — Northern Lights YMCA Delta Program Center will host NERF Night at the Turf for fourth through sixth grades from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at the Hannahville Ice & Turf Complex. The cost will be $10 for YMCA members and $15 for non-members. The YMCA will provide the space, obstacles and supervision. Players should bring their own NERF gear — NERF guns, foam bullets, vest and goggles. All FOAM NERF equipment is welcome. Eye protection is required, and a limited amount of supplies will be available. Space is limited to 30 participants. Elks monthly brunch Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks will have its monthly brunch from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. As always, the public is invited.

Dance in Rock on Sunday

ROCK — Rock Community/Senior Center, 3892 W. Mapleridge Road, will host a dance from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday with The Ghost Riders providing live music.

Cost to enter is $7. A free will donation lunch will be available. For more information, call Lucy at 906-356-6459. All proceeds will benefit the center’s senior corporation.

Soo Line engine group to meet

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority will have its regular monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday at 819 Delta Ave.

Volunteers recently helped hang Christmas lights on the locomotive display, which are to be lit later on this month. A site visit of the Soo Line engine for home-schooled students associated with Living Waters Academy is planned for Nov. 14.

The nonprofit continues to seek donations for perpetual care of the steam engine into the future. New donations can be made for the future Gladstone/Soo Line Historical Museum, as land is still being sought and building plans are being formalized.

Donations are always accepted by the Community Foundation for Delta County, 2420 First Ave. S. in Escanaba. Checks may be made out in care of Soo Line No. 730.

Anyone in the community interested in joining the group is encouraged to attend its regular meetings on the second Monday of each month. President John Pickard, 906-241-0888, can offer details.

ESCANABA — The Michigan Parkinson Foundation support group for Escanaba and the surrounding areas meets at 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month. Rock Lions breakfast buffet

ROCK — The Rock Lions Club will host an all-you-can-eat Hunters Breakfast Buffet and Can Drive from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 16, at the club, 14454 M-35.

There is a fee. The club also asks those attending bring a non-perishable canned good.

An American Legion raffle will take place at noon.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival.

They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested. Funds from the annual sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.
