Breakfast to benefit Honor Flight

RAPID RIVER — The American Legion Post 301 of Rapid River will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast to benefit the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Price for adults is $12; kids age 6 through 12, $5; and age 5 and younger can eat for free.

Elks monthly brunch Sunday

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks will have its monthly brunch from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday. As always, the public is invited.

St. Stephen’s piano recital

St. Anthony’s pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Anthony’s Church will have its final pasty sale of 2025 on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 16-17. Price is $6 each, with or without rutabaga. To preorder, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259. Pickup will be at St. Thomas Church in Escanaba. Deliveries can be made to any Escanaba businesses. Limited extra pasties will be available in the late afternoon. The church will not have another pasty sale until April.

Soo Line engine group to meet

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority will have its monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Solid Rock Church, 819 Delta Ave.

The original 1960 lease agreement from the Soo Line to the City of Gladstone has been found and will be discussed. Donation of Soo Line railcar 1887 Beams and railroad ties delivery will be a topic. A site visit is planned for November by the homeschoolers of the Community of Christ Church. Plans are underway for a Christmas event as well.

New Parkinson group

ESCANABA — The Delta Parkinson support group, a new group affiliated with the Michigan Parkinson Foundation that serves the Escanaba and the surrounding areas, meets the second Tuesday of each month. YMCA Fall Family Festival

ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA Delta Center will offer a free family day at the YMCA by hosting the Fall Family Festival from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.

Families can participate in games and activities, as well as jump in the bounce house. Children can stop by the pumpkin patch to select a free pumpkin to take home and carve. Free open swim will be available at the YMCA pool.

The event will also have raffles and food concessions with family-friendly pricing.

“We’re excited about offering our fall event to the community at our new facility.” said Caron Salo, YMCA associate executive director. “We want to continue to provide opportunities for families to spend fun, quality time together.”

Free Bible class offered

ESCANABA — A free non-denominational course of studies, beginning with learning how to read the Bible with understanding, will take place on Thursday evenings starting Oct. 16 in room 963 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College, 2001 N. Lincoln Road in Escanaba.

The classes are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Early registration is strongly encouraged, as class size is limited.

Applications for Christmas baskets

ESCANABA — Applications for the 2025 St. Vincent de Paul Christmas Basket Program will be available starting Monday, Oct. 20, and ending Friday, Nov. 14, at the St. Vincent de Paul Service Center, 115 N. Eighth St. in Escanaba. Hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Applications will be completed at the service center.The program provides a food box and gift requests can be made for children from infant to age 17.

Basket distribution will take place on Dec. 11-12 at the Ruth Butler Building on the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Escanaba.

YMCA to have NERF event

ESCANABA — Northern Lights YMCA Delta Program Center will host NERF Night at the Turf for fourth through sixth grades from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Hannahville Ice & Turf Complex. The cost will be $10 for YMCA members and $15 for non-members. The YMCA will provide the space, obstacles and supervision. Players bring their own NERF gear — NERF guns, foam bullets, vest and goggles. All FOAM NERF equipment is welcome. Eye protection is required, and a limited amount of supplies will be available.
