MARSP to meet

MANISTIQUE — The Manistique Area Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, or MARSP, will gather for the monthly luncheon meeting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the 40 Bar and Grill, 100 S. Second St.

Guest speaker will be Margo Withey, executive director of Good Neighbors and Feeding America.

This is the first meeting of the 2025-26 school year, and is open to all retired school personnel from Schoolcraft and eastern Delta counties. New retirees or those with questions can call Ruth Jones at 906-283-3209 to register.

Menominee MARSP

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, or MARSP, will meet Thursday at the Little Nugget Clubhouse on East County Road 338 in Carbondale.

Registration will be 11 to 11:25 a.m. Central time and lunch will be served at 11:30 Central. Lunch will be a chicken dinner at a cost of $15.

The program for the day will be presented by Major Rhegan Stansbury, who will discuss Salvation Army programs which benefit those in need in Marinette and Menominee counties. A business meeting will follow the program. Members are encouraged to bring a paper product or cleaning product to donate to the homeless shelter.

Caregiver Retreat set

CRYSTAL FALLS — Registration will end Thursday for a Caregiver Retreat planned for 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central time Saturday, Sept. 27, at Fortune Lake Camp near Crystal Falls in Iron County.

Hosted by Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress, the event is designed to provide rest and rejuvenation for non-professional family caregivers from the Upper Peninsula.

The day will include structured activities such as a nature hike and yoga. Also planned are a caregiver support group meeting, time at the waterfront and creating a nibble board. Participants can enjoy a chair massage from a professional massage therapist if they like.

Activities will be lead by registered dietitian and certified yoga instructor Pam Roose from Inspiring Roots of Ishpeming and assisted by Della Juliano, UPCAP health and caregiver educator.

Lakeside Fall Fest set

ESCANABA — The Lakeside Fall Fest will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Lakeside Christian Church, 2300 S. 21st St. in Escanaba.

The event will feature yard games; an inflatable obstacle course, weather permitting; and arcade-style Mario Kart on a big screen.

Movie Night in park

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Recreation Department’s Movie Nights in the Park will feature “Minecraft” starting about 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Karas Bandshell in Ludington Park. Those attending are encouraged to bring blankets or a chair and snacks to come to the park to enjoy a movie on the big screen. The movie is sponsored by Highline. In case of rain, the movie will be canceled.

Breakfast to benefit team

RAPID RIVER — Rapid River Legion Post 301 will serve an all-you-can-eat breakfast to support the Rapid River Cross Country Team from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday. Cost is $12 for adults and $5 for ages 6 through 12; ages 5 and younger can eat for free. The breakfast is being held in appreciation of all the help the cross-country team has given Post 301.

After School program

ESCANABA — The Catherine Bonifas Civic Center, 225 N. 21st St., will again offer its After School Program for youth in fourth through 12th grades starting Monday, Sept. 15.

This free program will be from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturdays. During that time, snacks will be provided every day after school and participants will have access to the game room and gym. They can also tour the civic center.

Rock craft show seeks ­vendors

St. Thomas pasty sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church will have a pasty sale Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 17-18. Pasties are $6.50 each and can be with or without rutabaga. Pickup will be between 3 and 5 p.m. at the church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N. in Escanaba. No early sales will be done — first come, first served.

Downtown Day in Gladstone

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Downtown Development Authority will have its Downtown Day Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27.

The event will feature a street fair, sidewalk sales and farmers market, plus live music, giveaways, games and more. A fire truck will be on site, and kids can enjoy face painting, cotton candy, kids crafts, and family-friendly fun.

Sewing classes

ESCANABA — The U.P. Steam & Gas Village will offer an evening sewing class for beginners from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 9 through Oct. 30 at the Village Community Hall, which is the blue building by the Delta County Chamber of Commerce Building and is attached to the schoolhouse.
