Card and game party planned

GLADSTONE — The Friends of the Gladstone Public Library is hosting its annual Summer Card/Game Party and Strawberry Shortcake Social on Thursday, June 12, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Avenue, in Gladstone.

There will be a summer basket raffle, a “share the wealth” raffle, as well as door prizes. Tickets are available for $10 at the Gladstone library of from a Friend of the Library. To reserve a table, call Connie at 906-428-1696.

All proceeds got to the library to help support activities and programs for the community, especially children, such as story hours and summer reading programs. This past year the group was able to give the library more than $40,500 thanks to the continued support and generosity of the community.

Delta Coin Club to meet

ESCANABA — The next meeting of the Delta Coin Club is Tuesday, June 10, at 5 p.m. in room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center building at Bay College. The public is always welcome.

Along with the Bay de Noc Stamp and Coin, vendors are needed for the show in August. For more information, call Richard Reiffers at 906-233-9261.

Rally planned

ESCANABA — Delta County Unified, an Indivisible group, is holding a rally on June 14 from noon until 4 p.m. The “Flag and Country, Not Kings” rally will be held at the Karas Memorial Bandshell in Ludington Park. Guest speakers will be discussing topics ranging from county issues, education and library issues, veterans concerns, Native American concerns, immigration issues and more.

The afternoon will focus on the impact of President Donald Trump’s policies on the local community. Those attending are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.

Escanaba Class of 1975

ESCANABA — Escanaba High School Class of 1975 is planning its 50th reunion. Classmates are asked to save the date of Saturday, Sept. 27. The event will be held at the House of Ludington.

The reunion committee will send out invites by the end of March.

The committee is looking for the most current addresses for classmates. Contact Joni Elliott at 1116 S 14th St., Escanaba, MI 49829 or 906-786-8745 with any address changes or questions. Classmates can also contact the committee on Facebook by searching for “Escanaba High School Class 1975” page.

MARSP to meet

MENOMINEE — The Menominee County Chapter of Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel (MARSP) will meet on Thursday, June 12, at the Little Nugget Clubhouse on East County Rd. 338, Carbondale, Michigan. Registration is from 10:45 to 11:25 a.m. CDT with the luncheon served at 11:30 a.m. CDT. On the menu is an Italian dinner at a cost of $15.

The program will be a memorial service to honor and remember Menominee County chapter members who have passed away since last June. There will be a short business meeting following the memorial service. Members are asked to bring a school supply donation if they are able.

Holy Name Class of 1966

ESCANABA — The Holy Name Class of 1966 is having a reunion meeting on Monday, June 30, at 4 p.m. at the Escanaba Country Club.

Garden museum to open

GARDEN — The Garden Peninsula Historical Society will open the Schoolhouse Museum on Friday, June 13. Volunteers are available Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

There are many exhibits that detail early life on the Peninsula, including displays honoring early doctors and veterans. Available for research are family history notebooks that offer many interesting facts on the pioneer families. Names are being accepted for the Honoree Dinner scheduled for September. To be considered, a potential honoree must be a past or present resident of the Garden Peninsula and at least 80 years of age. St. Anthony Pasty Sale

ESCANABA — St. Anthony of Padua Church, based in Wells, will be holding a pasty sale June 12 and 13. To preorder, call or text Debbie at 906-399-4259.

Pickup will be at St. Anthony & St. Thomas Church at 1820 9th Ave. N. in Escanaba, where the pasties are prepared and cooked. Delivery is available to Escanaba businesses. Limited extras will be available in late afternoon.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid Readers’s June discussion of “The Hidden Life of Trees” by Peter Wohlleben will take place at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River on Monday, June 23 at 10 a.m.

Veterans groups announce meeting schedule

ESCANABA — Delta County veteran’s groups have announced their meeting schedule. Amvets meetings are held at the Amvet building and American Legion Post #71 – meetings are held at Gladstone Legion. All other military organizations listed meet at the Purple Heart building, 1202 Sheridan Road in Escanaba.

Here is when each group gathers:

— Disable American Chapter #24 – first Monday of month 7 p.m.

— American Legion Post #71 Gladstone – first Wednesday of month 6 p.m.

— American Legion Post #82 – first Tuesday of month 6 p.m.

— Veterans of Foreign Wars #2998 – second Monday of month 6 p.m.

— Delta County Veterans Counsel – second Monday of month at 7 p.m. (following VFW #2998)

— Marine Corp League Detactment #444 – fourth Wednesday of month 7 p.m.

— Military Order of the Purple Heart Chapter #1976 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.

— Escanaba Amvets Post #123 – last Thursday of month 6 p.m.
