Sons of Union Veterans
MANISTIQUE — Camp #266 of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will hold its bi-monthly meeting on Saturday, Aug. 7 at the VFW in Manistique, located at 334 N. Maple Street. This will be an in-person meeting with a brunch at 11 a.m. and the business meeting following at 11:45 a.m.

At 1 p.m., the Camp will participate in the Schoolcraft County Historical Society’s walking tour of Lakeview Cemetery, where 39 Civil War veterans are buried. At 2 p.m., as part of the tour, the gravesite of George Fuller will be dedicated. He was the namesake of the Grand Army of the Republic Post #257 in Manistique. The tour ends at 4 p.m.
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving the history and legacy of the heroes who fought and worked to save the Union. Camp #266 includes members from across the Upper Peninsula. The focus of the camp is locating, marking, and maintaining graves of Civil War veterans as well as researching Civil War history.
