Students get EMP/Larche Family Engineering scholarships

ESCANABA — Two local students have been named as the recipients scholarships through the EMP/Larche Family Engineering Scholarship Fund.

The family of Escanaba native and Michigan Tech University graduate Brian Larche established the EMP/Larche Family Engineering Scholarship Fund in 2018. Larche is the owner, chairman and CEO of EMP in Escanaba. Since inception in 2018, this program has generated MTU scholarships for ten recipients.

Recipients receive a scholarship of $10,000. They plan to enroll at Michigan Technological University (MTU) and pursue a degree in the field of engineering. Scholarship award recipients for 2021 are:

— Nathan Lord, son of David and Kristin Lord, of Escanaba High School

— Max Shiverski, son of Steve and Donna Shiverski, of Bark River High School

“This community has been wonderful to my family over the years. I have no greater pleasure than to support and inspire future generations to enter the field of engineering at Michigan Tech University,” said Brian Larche in making the announcement.

Founded in 1981, Larche acquired EMP in 1991. EMP is a global leader in complex precision machining of heavy duty mechanical engine components, and electrified thermal management products and systems. Today, EMP has over 425 employees in Escanaba and Greenfield, Ind.
