Memorial Day help requested, schedule announced

HERMANSVILLE — Volunteers are needed to help place the “Avenue of Flags” in the Hermansville Cemetery on Thursday, May 27 at 5 p.m. Anyone interested in helping is asked to come to the cemetery that day. The monthly meeting of Hermansville American Legion Post 340 fill follow the flag placement.

On Monday, May 31, the Memorial Day program will be as follows:

— Morning flag raising will be at half-staff.

— 8 a.m. — Legion, Legion Auxiliary, Vietnam Veterans of America, and AmVets members will meet at Post club rooms.

— 9 a.m. — A memorial service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery, in Faithorn. The Norway-Vulcan School Band will perform.

— 11:15 a.m. — A memorial service will be held at the Meyer Township Cemetery.

While the Norway-Vulcan School Band will only perform at the cemetery in Faithorn, the general schedule of each memorial service is the same. The order of the march at each cemetery will be colors, firing squad, Legionaries, Vietnam Veterans of America, AmVets, veterans, Ladies Auxiliary, and others.

The programs will consist of a memorial prayer by Post 340, roll call of deceased veterans, placing of wreaths, salute the dead, the playing of Taps and the national anthem, and raising the flag to full-staff.
