GLADSTONE — Lucas Hughes, a senior at Gladstone High School, has been chosen as this year’s Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Onagomingkway Chapter Good Citizen contest winner. Sarah Smart, Good Citizen contest chair, presented Hughes with his pin, certificate and monetary prize.

Hughes was chosen by his school administration to be the Good Citizen recipient due to his academic achievement, participation in school sports and activities and work in the community. Hughes chose to sit for the two hour extemporaneous essay portion of the contest along with ten other area students and his essay was chosen as winner by three non-DAR judges. It will be sent to further judging in the state DAR competition.

Hughes, a volunteer firefighter in the Gladstone community, will pursue a career in fire protection in the Air force. He is the son of Alicia and Brian Hughes.
