The world is going to get better

Editor’s note: The following is part of a series of journal entries, drawings, and poetry created by Escanaba students as they navigate the pandemic. Today’s piece is from Escanaba sixth grader Cale Schroeder.

Covid deaths are like falling leaves,

It was here and there, but now it’s everywhere.

School’s not like it used to be,

Now when kids eat lunch, it’s like they’re in prison,

Yelling like prisoners yell, “Let me out!”

Forced to only two at a table,

Not able to sit and socialize with all your friends.

Because of Covid, everything’s empty or closed,

We can’t dine in our favorite restaurants, we have to order out….

People are trying to think what they can do,

But their thinking is blank because there’s nothing to do.

People are struggling because they can’t do their normal daily routines.

It is stressful and difficult.

Doctors are finalizing a vaccine for Covid,

In hopes to stop or slow the spread,

And then the world can hopefully return to the “normal” we once knew.

Not only are people struggling with Covid,

but they also have to make a stand.

People are fighting about who they think will be the better president.

Sometimes change is for the better.

The world is going to get better,

I know this from the bottom of my heart.

And hopefully for good.

Starting at $3.50/week.
