She volunteered to be on the frontline team to screen and test possible infected patients for the virus. The work is dangerous, but she wanted to help her community by volunteering. Powell has been accepted and will attend the Michigan State College of Human Medicine this fall to attain her MD degree. She hopes to become a doctor in the Upper Peninsula.
