‘A Journey Through Grief’

ESCANABA — “A Journey Through Grief” is a bereavement support group presented on behalf of UP Health System Hospice. This is a non-denominational support group that is open to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one.

The group provides educational materials and guided discussions on a variety of topics to assist those in the grieving process.

“A Journey Through Grief” is offered the last Thursday of every month. The next session is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 27 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church, 1820 9th Avenue North, Escanaba.

The group will be facilitated by Lewis Hague, UP Health System Hospice bereavement coordinator, and coordinated by Gayle DeShambo, account executive for UP Health System Hospice.

This support group is open to anyone in the community that is grieving the loss of a loved one.

Lenten breakfast event returns Feb. 22 in Esky

ESCANABA — The Annual Lenten Breakfast and Musical Program at Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 600 South Lincoln Road in Escanaba, will be held Saturday, Feb. 22. Breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m. with the program starting at 10 a.m.

The theme is “Behold, I stand at the door and knock.” In addition to soloists, the Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will be participating this year.

The speaker will be Reverend Dennis Meyette.

Seating for the breakfast is limited to 200, but program seating is unlimited. Call for your breakfast reservation by Feb. 19 to 786-6771 or 233-1857.

Nursery care will be provided upon request.

A free will donation for the breakfast and musical program will be received at the program. The ILCW will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Welcome Newborn Program at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Sing Off rescheduled

NAHMA — Due to the inclement weather on Jan. 18, the 4th Annual U.P. Sing Off will be held at the Nahma Inn Saturday, Feb. 15 at 7 pm.

Singers must be at least 18 years old and have their own karaoke CD. Singer registration is payable at 6:30 p.m. that evening. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded. Call Mary at 906-474-6109 or 906-420-0610.

Mystery box and basket drawings will also take place during the event.

The Sing Off is sponsored by the Isabella Community Hall committee for ongoing restoration projects.

Post 340 to meet

HERMANSVILLE — The Floriano-Stecker-Kelly Post 340 of Hermansville will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m. at the American Legion Club Rooms in Hermansville.

Escanaba Senior Center line dancing classes

ESCANABA — Line Dancing class is held every Wednesday for beginners at 12:45 to 2:30 p.m. at Escanaba Senior Center. Sit N Fit classes are held Monday and Friday at the Senior Center from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Rapid Readers to meet

RAPID RIVER — The Feb. 13 Rapid Readers discussion of Maxwell King’s “The Good Neighbor” begins at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. New members are welcome.

“The Cuckoo’s Calling,” by Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling), is the novel for the Thursday, March 12 discussion.

Taco Tuesday returns

GLADSTONE — Taco Tuesday is back at the Gladstone American Legion Post 71. Serving is from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome. The events are held at Gladstone American Legion Auxiliary Unit 71, 802 Delta Ave., in Gladstone.
