No line dancing in Gladstone till 2020

GLADSTONE — Line dancing at the Gladstone Senior Center will be discontinued over the holidays and will resume Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. For more information or to sign up, call 906-428-2843.

Benefit planned for Debby Frossard

BARK RIVER — A benefit for Debby (Kleikamp) Frossard is being planned for Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020 at the Bark River Senior Center. Frossard was recently diagnosed with colorectal cancer and has a nine month chemotherapy/radiation treatment plan. The benefit is being planned by family and friends to help defray travel, medical and loss of wages during her treatment.

A pancake breakfast is planned from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be a bake sale, bucket raffles, 50/50, and gun raffle during the pancake breakfast.

An account has been set up at Flagstar Bank for monetary donations. Donations are also being sought for the benefit. Call Benefit Chairperson Doreen Bower at 906-466-0155 to arrange for pick up of any donations.

Audubon club to meet tonight at Bay College

ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Audubon Club will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 7 p.m. The meeting will take place in room 961 of the Joseph Heirman University Center at Bay College. The primary topics will involve getting ready for the annual Christmas bird count. All those interested in participating in the bird count are especially encouraged to attend this meeting.

First UMC cookie sale

ESCANABA — The Ladies of the First United Methodist Church in Escanaba are warming up their ovens once again for their 26th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk on Saturday, Dec. 14, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

In addition to new and old cookie recipes, specialty breads, candy and fudge will again be featured. An assortment of cookies and breads makes a great gift for friends, relatives, nursing homes, local businesses and others.

There will also be some crafts available for sale. The public is invited to browse the baked goods and crafts and enjoy a free cup of coffee and samples of delicious cookies.

Rapid Readers choose classic for Christmas

RAPID RIVER — “The Good Earth” by Pearl Buck is the Rapid Readers’ Christmas novel. Discussion will take place on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River. New members are welcome.

January’s choice is “The Wedding Date” by Jasmine Guillory. Questions or comments may be directed to Peg Netchey at 428-9668.

Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir events

ROCK — The Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will present their annual Christmas cantata on Sunday, Dec. 15. This year, the group will be performing “Everlasting Light” by Larson, McDonald, Rouse and Shackley. There will be two performances, one at 4 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock, and one at 7 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins. Refreshments and fellowship will follow each performance.

A free will offering will be accepted to help cover the cost of music. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy these performances.

Activities at Bark River Senior Center planned

BARK RIVER — The Bark River Seniors meet each Wednesday for a Meals on Wheels dinner at 11:30 a.m. EST. There is a cost for the meal. The coffee pot will be on and there will be opportunities for visiting and cards beginning at 9 a.m. Sit-&-Fit exercises are begun at 10 a.m., for those interested. Bingo follows lunch.
