Amvets to host Ghost Riders Country Band

ESCANABA — Amvets Post 123, located at 1315 North Lincoln Road in Escanaba, is featuring The Ghost Riders Country Band from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, May 10. The public is welcome.

Spring Salad Luncheon Friday in Escanaba

ESCANABA — The 50th Anniversary Spring Salad Luncheon will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 819 1st Ave. South, Escanaba, Friday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Take out is available. The church is barrier free. A donation will be taken at the door.

Escanaba Class of 1954 reunion canceled

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Class of 1954 reunion has been canceled. A fun night for classmates will be held in its place on Aug. 24 at the Escanaba Country Club.

Rapid Readers change meeting date for May

RAPID RIVER — The third Thursday of May — May 16 — is the new meeting time of Rapid Readers for the discussion of Jason Matthew’s “Red Sparrow.” Readers meet at Jack’s Restaurant in Rapid River at 10 a.m.

Members should be thinking of novels for the new reading list. Suggestions will be submitted at the June 13 meeting. June’s choice is “The Coldest Winter Ever” by Sister Soulijah.

Legion Riders to meet

GLADSTONE — The Legion Riders will meet May 15 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion, located at 802 Delta Ave., Gladstone.

Book donations needed

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audiobooks, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale in August. They are also in need of large print books, which are often requested.

Funds from the annual sale are used to publish voter guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition.

There is a new drop-off site this year. Books can be delivered to the Daily Press Business Office at 600 Ludington Street during normal business hours. You can also call Pat Rudden at 280-1789 for pick-up.

Legion opens library

RAPID RIVER — Walter W. Cole American Legion Post 301 in Rapid River has opened a library in the legion hall.

The library is free to all and is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Service Officer Wednesday, as well as any other days the hall is open to the public.

Also, the Legion Hall is available for rental. For more information, please contact Carl at 906-399-8517.

Food pantry hours

ESCANABA — The Community Service Center food pantry adjacent to the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Escanaba is open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday and Saturday.

Opportunity offered to save life memories

ESCANABA — OSF Hospice is offering the “Life Memories” program. The Life Memories program allows OSF Hospice patients who are in the final stages of life the opportunity to relive and relate their memories for their loved ones. Volunteers conduct the person’s “life story” interviews and record them to DVD. The program is a free service to their patients and their families. All information is kept confidential. Those interested in participating should contact OSF Hospice at 786-3915.
