Artist lecture series continues Sept. 20

ESCANABA — The East Ludington Gallery, 1007 Ludington St. Escanaba, is having a lecture series with speakers presenting on the on third Thursday of every month.

This month’s lecture will be Beth Cox presenting “How Glass Paper Weights are Made.”

It will be on Sept. 20 from 7 to 8 p.m. and it is open to the public free of charge.

Legion Post 115 sets meeting for Wednesday

FLAT ROCK — The regular monthly meeting of the Escanaba River American Legion Post 115 and the auxiliary will be held at the Escanaba Township Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Croatian chicken dinner

GLADSTONE — Sons of the American Legion Squadron 71 is hosting a Croatian chicken dinner on Sunday, Sept. 9 from 3 to 6 p.m. It will be held at the American Legion, 802 Delta Avenue, Gladstone.

The Legion asks that you call ahead and reserve your dinner, as there is a limited amount of chickens available. To make a reservation, call 906-428-1050. You may take out the dinners or eat in at the hall.

Daily activities planned at the senior center

HERMANSVILLE — The Hermansville Senior Center has various activities going on every week. Every day, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., walking is available, and there is also a treadmill. Morning coffee is available every day.

Every Tuesday and Friday, 15 games of bingo are played, starting at 12:45 p.m.

On Wednesday afternoons, enjoy a game of cards.

Craft day is the third Monday of the month.

Foot Clinic is on the third Tuesday of the month. The nurse arrives at 9 a.m. Bring a towel. Call the center to register for the foot clinic.

Day Services seeks printed materials

ESCANABA — Community Action Agency Adult Day Services, formerly Perspectives Adult Care Center is in need of old greeting cards and magazines to be used in different activities.

The pictures will be used to make notepads, bookmarks, and daily placemats. Cards do not have to be taken apart, as they will be incorporated into an activity.

Items may be dropped off at Community Action Adult Day Services, located at the Gary Abrahamson Jr. Memory Care Center, 2635 1st Ave. S. in Escanaba (past West Highland, the last building on the left behind Bishop Noa Home) or at any senior center in the Delta County area.

Rapid River Legion to meet Tuesday at 7 p.m.

RAPID RIVER — The Rapid River American Legion meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Sept. 4.

Mill retirees to hold meeting Wednesday

ESCANABA — The mill retirees group will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at the Union Hall on Sheridan Road at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be provided and there will be a 50/50 drawing.

All mill retirees are invited to attend. The group meets the first Wednesday of every month.

71st Fall Festival

TRENARY — St. Rita Parish in Trenary will hold its annual Fall Festival on the parish grounds on Sunday, Sept. 9. A harvest dinner featuring turkey with all the trimmings will be served from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the parish hall. There is a fee for the dinner, but children under five eat free. Take-out dinners will be available.

Special games for young and old alike will be featured on the grounds, including bingo. There will be a silver dollar game, craft and baked goods booths, a refreshment stand and music by Mary Lynn and Doug. The raffle drawing will be held at 4 p.m.

Everyone is welcome. Please note that Sunday Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m., on Sept. 9.
