Eagles memorial

ESCANABA — Escanaba Eagles will conduct a memorial service today at 1 p.m. to honor the following deceased members of Aerie and Auxiliary:

Mother’s Day meal at Rapid River Legion

Elks Mother’s Day brunch

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Elks #354 will host a Mother’s Day brunch on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please call the lodge, 906-786-2294, after 4 p.m. for reservations for 5 people and more.As always, brunch is open to the public.

Soo Line monthly meeting

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Michigan Soo Line Steam Engine No. 730 Authority will have its regular monthly meeting at 4:30 p.m. Monday at 819 Delta Ave, Solid Rock Church.

Continued planning for the annual four-person golf fundraiser on May 28 at the Escanaba Golf Course is taking place. Hole sponsors are being sought, along with raffle prizes. The Soo Line also announces the Hole in One Sponsorship of O’Connors Chrysler Jeep Ram of Pickford, Michigan.

The nonprofit continues to seek donations for perpetual care of the steam engine into the future. New donations can be made for the future Gladstone/Soo Line Historical Museum, as land is still being sought and building plans are being formalized. Donations are always accepted by the Community Foundation for Delta County, 2420 First Ave. S. in Escanaba. Checks may be made out in care of Soo Line No. 730.

The Soo Line History display is once again set up at the U.P. State Bank Location in Gladstone. All are invited to stop in and see the history of the Soo Line that will be displayed in the future museum. Soo Line #730 Train t-shirts and sweatshirts, Coffee Mugs and Memorabilia continue to be available at the U.P. State bank during the Month of May.

Anyone in the community interested in joining the group is encouraged to attend its regular meetings on the second Monday of each month. Authority President John Pickard, 906-241-0888, can offer details.

Parkinson Foundation support group meeting

ESCANABA — The Michigan Parkinson Foundation support group for Escanaba and the surrounding areas meets the second Tuesday of each month at 1:00 p.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at the Community Action Agency, 507 1st Ave. North, Escanaba.

St. Thomas Pasty Sale

ESCANABA — St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1820 Ninth Ave. N. in Escanaba, will have a pasty sale on Wednesday and Thursday. Pick up will be at the church between 3 and 5 p.m.

Pasties can be made with or without rutabaga. Early sales are not allowed, and it is first come, first served.

This is the church’s last pasty sale until September.

American Legion breakfast

GLADSTONE — The American Legion post 71, 802 Delta Ave., Gladstone, will host a late Mother’s Day all-you-can-eat breakfast on Sunday, May 17.

Everyone is welcome to join for the free breakfast from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Delta County Unified gathering

ESCANABA — On Tuesday, May 19, Delta County Unified will host MacKenzie Walz from Promote the Vote at the Bay College Heirman Center, Room 952. MacKenzie will speak about voting rights, election security and proof of citizenship. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will start promptly at 6 p.m.

St. Charles Church pasty sale

RAPID RIVER — St. Charles Church in Rapid River will be selling fresh pasties on Tuesday, May 19. Pickup is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Parish Center. Preorder now for Memorial Day.

Habitat golf tournament

IRON MOUNTAIN — Habitat for Humanity’s Menominee River branch is holding its “Raise the Roof” golf outing on Thursday, May 21 at TimberStone.

Money from sponsors and entrants goes toward helping neighbors perform needed repairs on their homes.

Lakeview accepting items for rummage sale

ESCANABA — Lakeview Cemetery is accepting donations for its annual rummage sale. People may make drop-offs to 2110 Third Avenue South in Escanaba from now until May 23 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

To have items picked up from the donor’s home, people may call Sharon at 906-553-2403. No clothes, mattresses or electronics will be accepted. The rummage sale will be in early June. Lakeview thanks the public in advance.

Pet supply drive

ESCANABA — Menards is serving as a drop site for donations of pet supplies — food, treats, feeders, collars, beds and more — that will be donated to the Humane Association. A collection box will be near the exit doors of the Escanaba store at 3300 Ludington St. until May 31.

Gladstone Class of ’76 reunion

GLADSTONE – The Gladstone High School Class of 1976 will be holding their 50th High school class reunion July 2 at the Gladstone Golf club. Please refer to the class’ facebook page for more details: GHS Class of 1976 Reunion.

ESCANABA — The Holy Name Class of 1966 has scheduled its 60th reunion for Sept. 12 at the Escanaba Elks Club starting at 4 p.m.

ESCANABA — The Escanaba High School Class of 1976 has scheduled its 50th reunion for Sept. 26 at the Highland Golf Course.

A schedule of events for the weekend and registration materials will be provided on the class Facebook page, Escanaba Class of 1976, or by email.

Donations sought for book sale

ESCANABA — The Delta County League of Women Voters is looking for donations of books, audio books, DVDs and music CDs to be sold at its annual book sale at the Waterfront Art Festival. Funds from the sale are used to publish Voter Guides and for other voter services.

Donated materials should be no more than 10 years old and in good condition. The league is not able to accept and store large quantities of books and requests the books meet the donation criteria.

Large print books are often requested.

Books can be delivered during normal business hours to the Ludington Centre, 1112 Ludington St. Donors are asked to use the 11th Street entrance, Suite 208, and look for the league’s sign. For pick-up, call Pat Rudden at 906-280-1789.

Delta County Cancer Alliance seeks Donations

ESCANABA — The Delta County Cancer Alliance (DCCA) is in need of bed pads. Many of the DCCA’s clients who are going through cancer treatments appreciate the convenience of using bed pads for comfort and cleanliness at a very challenging time. The DCCA will accept donations at their office, 3430 Ludington St, Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Delta Animal Shelter requests donations

ESCANABA — The Delta Animal Shelter is in need of the following donations: Purina Cat Chow (blue bag), Purina Kitten Chow (yellow bag), NutriSource chicken/rice dog food, Purina One chicken/rice dog food, canned dog food, canned cat/kitten food, soft dog treats, scoopable cat litter, clay cat litter, bleach, liquid Lysol, paper towels, dish soap, garbage bags, power laundry detergent, hand sanitizer, dog collars/leashes, rabbit food and hay.

Monetary donations would be exceptionally helpful, especially with the amount of medical and police cases.

Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 6975 County Road 426, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or outside the building in the donation box.

Gladstone church offers clothing

GLADSTONE — The Memorial United Methodist Church, 1920 Lake Shore Drive in Gladstone, has a free clothes closet with coats, and shoes available in most sizes. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays or by appointment by calling 906-428-9311. Donations are also accepted.
