Escanaba takes down Kingsford in hockey tilt

WELLS — The Escanaba Eskymos were in lockdown mode here Friday night in a 4-1 hockey victory over the Kingsford Flivvers. Esky limited the Flivvers to nine shots on goal, including three on their second power play opportunity nearly midway through the third period. Kingsford, which had great difficulty breaking out of their zone, managed just three shots through two periods and failed to get a shot during their first power play. CARNEY — The Rapid River girls tried to control the pace, but couldn’t keep up with a more experienced basketball team here Wednesday, dropping a 47-21 decision to Niagara, Wis. in the Carney-Nadeau Holiday Classic title game. Rapid River, which elected to take the air out of the ball, trailed 6-2 after the first quarter. The Rockets then couldn’t buy a bucket most of the second stanza and trailed 24-4 at halftime.
