Annual Beginning Trappers Workshop set
HERMANSVILLE — U.P. Trappers of District Three announce the annual Beginning Trappers Workshop will be on Feb. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST at the Hermansville Community Center in Hermansville.
This event has grown in popularity each year since Rick Arduin came up with the idea about 15 years ago. The target audience is youngsters, but anyone is welcome, including adults who may want to explore the sport of harvesting fur bearers. Admission is free, food and refreshments will be available.
Clint Seawright of Skunk Creek will be on hand buying furs, doing a trapping demonstration and selling trapping supplies. Scott Burton of Burtons Trapping Lures will be in attendance as well, offering his wares. Jim Fornetti will be giving a demo on trapping weasels. Nathan Belanger will be showing everyone how to properly prepare furs for market. Youngsters under 12 will be awarded a guaranteed door prize and a trapper’s startup kit including a weasel box, trap and lure; youngsters 12-17 will receive a brand new dog-proof raccoon trap. Special raffles and other prizes will be available.
“We are proud to put this event on,” said Jim Fornetti, a longtime member of District Three. “It is so great to see the youngsters returning each year and meeting all the newcomers as well. It puts a smile on the faces of us old timers to interact with the kids and to know that our trapping heritage is in good hands with all of them being interested and involved.”
