Braves earn second place finishes in both ends of triangular

ESCANABA — Gladstone swimming and diving teams placed in the middle of a triangular meet here Thursday. The Houghton boys edged the Braves 128-112 and third-place Manistique scored 52 points. Houghton’s girls had 142 points, followed by Gladstone 78 and Manistique 54. “The meet started a little rough for us as three of our four teams were disqualified for early starts,” Braves’ coach Tom Desy said. “This was our second meet of the year and it showed that we have some things to work on. Marquette uses late run to get past Braves

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone boys fell victim to Marquette’s late run here Thursday night, dropping a 60-57 basketball decision to the Sentinels. Gladstone led 55-49 following a 23-foot jump shot by junior guard Lonnie Davey with 2:35 remaining in this Great Northern Conference opener. Marquette answered with a 11-0 run, gaining a 60-55 advantage on a pair of free throws by senior Ford Richardson with 19 seconds left to play.
