Escanaba Speedway crowns champions

ESCANABA - The Escanaba Motor Speedway held its annual banquet on Oct. 24 where they crowned the 2026 champions and started preparations for the 2027 season.

The raceway will have new faces on the Board of Directors as Bob Bourdeau comes in as Vice-President and Chris Olson and Zach Yelle come on as members.

The Banquet crowned the 2026 champions in each division as Matt Valiquette took the sport mod division. This marks the third championship for Valiquette over the last four seasons.

"It's always a huge blessing to be crowned as a champion," Valliquette said. "There is a lot of adversity and things that go into winning one and I was fortunate to have a great team to help me on a few nights when we had some bad luck that could have ended our night and also our championship hopes so it is always a fight and any of our top five drivers would have won a championship in any other class"

In the 600 sprints Jayger Quinn was crowned as a first time champion. He was not alone as 500 sprint driver Nate Viau also won his first track championship.

Tony Begovac won his second championship with his last one coming in 2024. Tanner Rae also was a repeat winner as he won for the third straight year in the youth micro sprints.

Calvin Stueck won the track championship in his first full season at Escanaba Motor Speedway in the sport compacts.

Scott Degnan was the feature winner in the super mod class, for Degnan this marks his 18th championship in his career.

The speedway is working on the 2027 schedule right now and can't wait to see all the fans back in 2027 for the first green flag of the season expected to drop late in May.
