Oct. 6, 1966 -- Todd Lindeman scattered four hits and struck out 12 as the Channing Railroaders handed the Hermansville Redskins a 6-2 baseball loss. Doug LaCoursier ripped two doubles for the Redskins and Randy Fochesato, who allowed seven hits, took the loss.

Oct. 8, 1966 -- The Holy Name Crusaders racked up 515 yards in total offense in a 46-32 football triumph over the Manistique Emeralds. Holy Name's Bob Bricco scored on a 10-yard run, an 81-yard punt return and a 25-yard screen pass from Dave Cannon. Bob Gorenchan added a touchdown on a 55-yard aerial from Cannon, who also ran four yards for another score. Mike Dubord scored on a 17-yard run and Chris Young added a TD on a 74-yard dash. Manistique's Bob Cowman scored on a quarterback sneak. Bob Males and Don McCurdy scored on two-yard runs and Oliver Sholander concluded the scoring by recovering a fumble for a 65-yard TD.

Oct. 10, 1966 -- The Powers-Spalding Tigers extended their winning streak to four games, limiting Pembine, Wis. to 23 yards in total offense in a 20-0 victory over the Panthers. Tom Smith threw a 45-yard TD pass to Scott Riedy and added five and three-yard TD runs.

Jerry Olson ran for three TDs in a 32-6 victory over the Rock Little Giants. Pat Sagataw added a Te on an eight-yard pass and Felix Sacheck intercepted a pass and returned it 33 yards for another score.

Oct. 5, 1981 -- The Gladstone Braves recorded their straight football victory in a 23-0 conquest of West Iron County. John Pelon scored Gladstone's first TD on a 10-yard keeper. Jerry Chuman scored on a 68-yard dash and Jeff McKnight added a one-yard TD plunge.

The Menominee boys were crowned champions in the Escanaba Invitational cross country meet with 47 points. They were followed by Marinette 65 and Gladstone 92. Iron Mountain's Marty Humphrey won the three-mile race in 15:23. Gladstone's George Nebel placed seventh and Ken Eubank was Esky's leader in 22nd.

Marinette took the girls' title with 18 points, followed by Gwinn 80 and Esky 91. Marinette's Chris Godlewski was the individual winner at 19:06. Gladstone's Shari Ahola took third and Esky's Anne Rontu was eighth.

Oct. 7, 1981 -- The Carney-Nadeau girls scored four in double digits in a 60-39 basketball victory over the Rapid River Rockets. Kelly Strahl led the Wolves with 16 points. Jodi Perras added 14. Donna Thiry hit 13 and Shirley Wery had 11. Chris Mackie was Rapid River's leader with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Sandy Davison's 17 points was enough to lead the Escanaba Eskymos past the Kingsford Flivvers 67-36. Shelly Livermore scored 12 and Jeanne Courneene and Michelle Hall finished with 10 apiece.

Oct. 10, 1981 -- Esky celebrated homecoming by clinching at least a share of the Great Northern Conference football title in a 51-0 rout of West Iron County. Mike Pilon led the Eskymos with three TDs and 13 ball carriers combined for 277 yards on the ground. Paul DeMay, Tim Nault and Mike Lawson caught two passes each for 116 yards.
