ESCANABA -- With the closing of the 2026 tennis season it's time for another Meet the Athlete. Today we introduce you to Escanaba senior and No. 1 singles player Anna Martin.

Adam Hinch: So Anna, when did you develop a love for the sport of tennis?

Anna Martin: I have been playing since I was eight but it was after my eighth grade year that I realized I wanted to be on the team after Menominee brought an extra JV and we didn't have any players and so I played and I had just quit basketball because I didn't like it and I was put in a JV match and from there it became my favorite sport.

AH: What do you like to do outside of tennis?

AM: I participate in a lot of clubs. I'm also the Vice President of our class so I like working on all the class events as well as working as a daycare teacher's assistant. But most of my time is spent with sports and working out which is what I have been doing since I was little.

AH: What are your plans for college?

AM: I want to go into education and be a teacher for a couple years but would like to be a superintendent or principal at the end of the day.

AH: What is your favorite kind of music?

AM: I would say country and I also like Noah Kahan but I also like all kinds of music depending on my mood.

AH: What is your favorite food?

AM: Pasta with red sauce.

AH: Are you a pizza fan?

AM: I love pizza.

AH: Does pineapple belong on pizza?

AM: No it does not.

AH: What is your favorite soft drink?

AM: Definitely a Diet Coke.

AH: If you could go anywhere on vacation where would you go?

AM: I would love to go to France and would like to go to the beaches. They have really good beaches there.

AH: What has been your favorite part of your four years with Escanaba tennis?

AM: I would definitely say the friendships I have made along the way and like my sophomore year I was playing one doubles with my best friend Sonya Maki. That was fun.

AH: Growing up did you and your sister play together a lot?

AM: Not really. We are two completely different kinds of players. I usually ended up playing with a lot of my friends.

AH: Are you an NFL fan and what is your favorite sport?

AM: I do and I like the Detroit Lions.
