ESCANABA -- The Escanaba tennis team was in control of the match from the start here Tuesday as they defeated Iron Mountain 7-1.

The most exciting match of the day came at No. 4 singles where Almelia Alimenti defeated Rhiannon Johnson 6-3, 2-6, 10-6.

"Amelia was able to claim the first set without much trouble," Eskymos coach Chris Ogren said. "Rhiannon elevated her game in the second set and Amelia found herself down quickly and with today's match not having much effect on seeding the girls played a 10-point tie break match in which she was able to win the match."

It was a nice win for senior Anna Martin at No. 1 singles as she knocked off Alysia Wood 6-1, 6-1.

"Anna has been our anchor all year," Ogren said. "She takes on every team’s best player and has only lost to two different opponents all season."

Martin found her grove today with great play at the net and found her groove quickly despite dropping the first game in both sets.

The Eskymos also picked up a nice win at No. 1 doubles as Claire Jacobsen and Sophie Hill defeated Olivia Geneva and Lindsey Lewandowski 6-3, 6-2.

"They played smart tennis from start to finish," Ogren said. "They look primed to make a run at the U.P. Finals and have a great season overall."
