HARRIS -- Fall definitely showed up in Harris on Friday night as the Broncos took down the Manistique Emeralds 45-16.
The Broncos scored first with 6:23 to go in the first quarter as senior Dane Schmitt connected with Ben Knauf on a 35-yard touchdown pass and with the two-point conversion led 8-0.
The Broncos added to the lead with 4:35 to go in the first quarter as senior Gabe Spear took it 35 yards to the house. The Broncos again converted on the two-point attempt and led 16-0.
With 11:35 to go in the second quarter Spear took his second carry of the game 81 yards for another house call and extended the Broncos lead to 22-0.
"I got held down last week," Spear said. " That was one of my goals coming in tonight was to be faster and not look back."
With 8:27 to go in the first half senior Gionni McDonough took it 20-yards to paydirt. The Broncos were good on the two-point conversion to take a 30-0 lead.
"There are things we coach on film that we see we don't do well and against elite teams those mistakes get exposed," Broncos coach Caleb Adams said. "We have Menominee coming in next week and they have set the standard by winning a state title last year. Coach Brandt is a great coach and we can't make errors in a game and expect to come out on top."
With 1:06 to go in the first half Schmitt threw his second of three TD passes on the night as he hit McDonough on a 63-yard strike to put the Broncos up 38-0 at the break.
"It was nice to find Gionni open," Schmitt said. "I was able to get the ball to him easily and he made the rest of the play look easy with his speed."
Schmitt threw his third TD of the game with 4:28 to go in the third quarter as he found Ethan Oswald on a 42-yard pass to extend the Broncos lead to 45-0.
Schmitt finished the night 4 of 6 for 197 yards and three TDs. Spear led the way rushing with two carries for 116 yards and two scores.
Manistique owned the fourth quarter as junior Luke Benish scored a pair of TDs the first coming with 11:51 to go as he took in 27 yards to the house to cut the deficit to 45-8 and the second one with 4:19 to play as he took it 80 yards to the end zone and cut the deficit to 45-16.
Benish led the way on the ground as he had 15 carries for 109 yards and a pair of TDs.
Manistique will face Westwood next week on the road while Bark River-Harris will host Menominee in a clash of 7-1 teams to close the regular season.
