Sept. 21, 1966 -- Julian Vandecaveye of Perkins was elected president of the Central League. Dave Pelletier of Garden was elected vice-president and statistician and Norm Slough of Rapid River will become secretary-treasurer.
Sept. 23, 1966 -- The Hermansville Redskins posted a 16-10 baseball triumph over the Alpha Mastodons in a Big Seven Conference match-up. Randy Fochesato and Doug LaCoursier combined on a four-hitter. LaCoursier hit three singles and Fochesato added a triple and single.
Sept. 26, 1966 -- The Escanaba Eskymos broke into the win column for the first time this season in a 12-6 football triumph over the Kingsford Flivvers. Jim Boyle threw touchdown passes of 35 and 43 yards to Paul Miller.
The Holy Name Crusaders improved to 4-0 with a 26-6 victory over the Marquette Bishop Baraga Royals. Mike Dubord led the Crusaders in rushing with 70 yards on 17 carries, including a three-yard touchdown run. Dave Cannon scored on a quarterback sneak. Chris Young added a nine-yard TD run and Joe Young scored from a yard out. Joe LaFleur, who was Holy Name's defensive leader, recovered two fumbles.
The Powers-Spalding Tigers moved into first place in the Wolverine Conference with a 47-0 rout of Pembine, Wis. Tom Smith threw for four TDs, including a pair to Eugene Folick and one each to Scott and Kim Riedy. Scott Riedy and Jim Grondine ran for TDs and Tom Pipkorn added a score on a 44-yard interception return.
Jerry Olson ran for four TDs, leading the Bark River-Harris Broncos to a 42-6 triumph over the Rock Little Giants. Terry Sagataw ran for a TD and passed to Felix Sacheck and Pat Sagataw for TDs. Mike Dube scored for Rock on a 20-yard pass from Dan Johnson.
Sept. 21, 1981 -- Kirby McCarty ran for 104 yards, including a three-yard touchdown, helping Rapid River post a 28-0 football triumph over Rock Mid Peninsula. Robert Hardwick added a 26-yard TD run. Tom McLenithan scored on a two-yard run. Mike Lee dashed 41 yards into the wind for another score and Bill Sigfred booted a wind-aided 37-yard field goal.
Patti Trotter collected 25 points and 14 rebounds, leading the Gladstone girls to a 59-47 basketball victory over the West Iron County Wykons. Pam Tousignant added nine points and 13 boards and Toni Skrivanie led the Wykons with 13 points.
Sept. 22, 1981 -- Jeanne Courneene hit 15 points, leading Escanaba to a 61-39 triumph over Marquette. Shelly Livermore added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Sandy Davison finished with 13 points.
Sept. 23, 1981 -- Robin Welch tossed in 19 points as the Manistique Emeralds defeated the Big Bay de Noc Black Bears 50-34. Beth Nelson chipped in with 16. Kelly Demars paced the Black Bears with 15.
Sept. 26, 1981 -- Jerry Rudden provided the Escanaba Eskymos with an early 19-yard TD run as they hung on for a 13-8 football victory for the Menominee Maroons. Dean Altobelli added Esky's second score on a two-yard plunge.
The Gladstone Braves posted their first victory this season in a 27-12 conquest of Marquette. Scott Boddy provided the Braves with 16 and one-yard TD runs. Jerry Chuman scored on a two-yard run and John Pelon tossed a three-yard TD pass to Marc Rabitoy.
