North Central wins Homecoming game over Munising

SPALDING -- The Friday Night Lights were shining bright for the North Central Jets as senior Jacob Plunger was named Homecoming King and senior McKenzie Walters was crowned Homecoming Queen before the action kicked off. The Jets came away with a 59-8 victory over the Mustangs led by four rushing touchdowns by junior Pryar LaBonte who also had over 100 rushing yards in the contest.

"All the blocking was there tonight," LaBonte said. "I just had to run behind the blocks and that is what got it done tonight.

The Jets got on the board first with 9:13 to go in the first quarter as LaBonte took it in from one yard out the two-point conversion failed and the Jets led 6-0.

The Jets extended the lead to 12-0 with 7:09 to go in the first quarter as senior Kaden Malone took it in from six yards out.

With 5:20 to go in the first quarter Nathan Pipkorn connected on a 43-yard TD pass to sophomore Ty Veeser to put the Jets up 18-0.

Munising did get on the board with 1:37 to go in the first quarter as junior Levi Hauler took it 42 yards to the house and cut the deficit to 18-8.

"They jumped on us early," Mustangs coach Matt Mattson said. "We had chances and in the second half we really lost our composure but we will be more disciplined next week."

The Jets added a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter as Malone took it in from 30 yards out then with :21 to go in the half Malone threw a 18-yard TD pass to senior Riley Cretens to put the Jets up 32-8 at the break.

"The loss against Ishpeming really woke us up," Malone said. "We know we have a big game next week and we need to be all focussed to prove ourselves next week."

Munising was starting to put a drive together in the third quarter until junior Myles Nehring punched the ball out and picked it up and went 64 yards to the end zone and the Jets extended their lead to 38-8.

"He had the ball out looking for extra yards," Nehring said. "I punched it out and took it to the house."

With 2:28 to go in the third quarter, LaBonte took it in from three yards out to put the Jets up 44-8. LaBonte added a pair of TDs in the fourth quarter to close out the game.

"The kids are happy it was a good homecoming win," Jets coach Leo Gorzinski said. "We are still pretty sloppy and we need to get this stuff cleaned up some more."

The Jets will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Lake Linden-Hubbell.
