Nordics ground Jets in volleyball action

SPALDING -- Even with early leads in three of the first four sets, it wasn't enough as the North Central Jets fell to the North Dickinson Nordics (25-11, 23-25, 26-24, 25-10) in four sets here Thursday.
In the first set, The Jets took an early 3-2 lead on a kill by freshman Myla Gorzinski.
With the Nordics leading 7-6, North Dickinson went on a nine-point service run with a pair of aces by senior Aunika Lindholm and a pair of kills by freshman Kathryn Steinbrecher to put the Nordics up 17-6. Steinbrecher finished the night with five kills as well as 2 digs on the night.
The Jets jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the second set on a pair of aces by senior Mylie Luedtke as well as a kill and a block from senior Violet Riley.
"We are a much improved team this year, ” Jets coach Rick Mick said. "I feel like for most of the match we played very well and it showed on the scoreboard."
The Nordics battled back to tie the game at 11 the first of 12 ties and eight lead changes over the course of the second set. The Jets sealed the second set with a kill by senior Addison Poupore.
"We get too comfortable after we get a win under our belt," Nordics coach Taylor Johnson said. "And that leads to them battling back and that is what happened in the second and third sets and I was happy we were able to turn that back around in our favor in the fourth set."
In the third set, The Jets started with a 3-0 lead and then extended the lead to 10-5 on a kill by Luedtke. The Jets led 14-10after a pair of aces by junior Ella Mick.
The Nordics battled back to tie the game at 14 but the Jets refused to give up the lead as they pushed the lead back to 17-14 on a kill by Riley.
The Nordics finally captured the lead at 19-18 ona kill by senior Ella Rossi. The match was tied four more times before the Nordics were able to come away with the win.
The Nordics wasted no time in the fourth set as they jumped out to a 4-1 lead and never looked back as they took the fourth set 25-10.
Aunika Lindholm had 27 assists to go along with 14 digs, four aces and two kills. Dalaney Steinbrecher had 26 digs and two kills.
The Jets return to action Tuesday as they travel to Mid Peninsula. The Nordics return to action today at the Forest Park Invite.
