ESCANABA -- Escanaba and Kingsford played to a 4-4 split the last time these two teams met. Escanaba was able to flip two of those four matches to take a 6-2 win over Kingsford here Thursday.
The Eskymos picked up a big win at No. 3 singles as Varrah Veeser was able to defeat Aubrey Bellmore 6-4, 7-5 in two sets.
"Varrah lost in this matchup earlier in the season," Eskymos coach Chris Ogren said. "Varrah has really embraced her slice forehand, and success has followed ."Varrah has been a tough matchup for her opponents this season.
"It's tough for opponents to continually have to return a ball that doesn't bounce very high," Ogren said. "It's especially tough when Varrah keeps getting one more ball over the net."
The Eskymos second match that was flipped came at No. 1 doubles as Sophie Hill and Claire Jacobsen defeated Kingsford's Mira Johnson and Kylee Woodward 6-4, 7-5 in two sets.
"Sophie and Claire lost a tough match to this same team on Saturday and they really felt like they could change that outcome and today they did," Ogren said, "They played more balls out of the air and really seemed to tip the scales in their favor."
The Eskymos also picked up a big win at No. 2 doubles as they defeated Natalie Bjorne and Verity Martin 5-7, 7-5, 6-4.
Bella and Lily dropped the first set despite the loss they were able to bounce back and take the second set.
