Escanaba victorious on Senior Day

ESCANABA -- Early morning rain gave way to sunny skies for Escanaba girls tennis as the took on Menominee on Senior Day. The Eskymos got the best of the Maroons as they picked up a 6-2 victory. All 10 seniors were in the lineup for the Eskymos.
Alexa DeGrand teamed up with Cecilia Glish at No. 3 doubles and were able to pick up the win in two sets, 6-1, 6-0. "Both girls played great today," Eskymos coach Chris Ogren said. "It was especially nice to see Cecilia play so well in her first varsity match."
Laura Herioux played the longest match of the day at No. 4 singles as she battled against Menominee's Kaitlyn Merell taking the first set 6-4 before dropping the fifth set 7-5. In lieu of a third set the girls played a tiebreak to 10 where Merell was able to pick up a 10-8 win for the Maroons.
Olivia Vogel showed grit and determination at No. 2 singles as she defeated Menominee's Ella Chouinard 6-4, 6-2 in two sets. Liv was up big in the first set but Ella battled back," Ogren said. "Liv showed her experience in the end as she closed out the first set 6-4 before taking the second set 6-2.
Escanaba senior Anna Martin continued to show herself as one of the top players in the U.P. with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Menominee's Maddy Mosey. Martin was very efficient with her serves and played very well at the net making some big plays.
Menominee's other win came at No. 4 doubles as Annabelle Adams and Kylee Sevon defeated Anabel Niswonger and Isabel Perryman 6-3, 6-4.
