Broncos stampede over Modeltowners

HARRIS -- It had the feel of a summer night in Harris here Friday as the Bark River-Harris Broncos took on the Gwinn Modeltowners.
The Modeltowers struck early as junior Peyton Bell connected with Gage Jones on a 65-yard touchdown pass with 10:57 to go in the first quarter to put Gwinn up 6-0. Jones finished the game with three catches for 97 yards and one TD.
The Broncos quickly turned the game on its head as Ben Knauf ran it in from 15 yards out with 9:33 to go in the first quarter and then with 2:40 to go in the first quarter Gionni McDonough scored on a 3-yard TD run to put the Broncos up 16-6.
The Broncos found the endzone again with 1:09 to go in the first quarter as Andy Johnson ran it in from 14 yards out one of three TDs for him on the night to extend the Broncos lead to 24-6.
The Broncos kept the heat on the Modeltowners in the second quarter as Johnson ran it in from 11 yards out with 11:55 to go in the first half to put the Broncos up 32-6 and Johnson followed it up with a 59-yard TD run with 10:05 to go in the first half to extend the lead to 40-6. Johnson finished the game with 10 carries for 182 yards and 3TDs.
"Our offensive line blocked phenomenally all night," Johnson said. "Every play we ran seemed to work well for us and it feels good to start 2-0 at home and there is no better feeling than playing in front of our home fans."
The Broncos as a team rushed the ball for 456 yards to only 41 for the Modeltowners. The Modeltowners had the edge in passing yards 150 to only 41 for the Broncos. The Broncos racked up 17 first downs to only four for Gwinn.
"It was a good team win for us tonight," Broncos coach Caleb Adams said. "We knew we had to come out and establish the run and Andy had a big night and really executed when he ran the ball."
The Broncos travel to Iron Mountain next Friday.
