Black Bears improve to 10-0 with win over Eagles

GARDEN CORNERS -- The Big Bay de Noc Black Bears improved to 10-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over Olibwe Charter here Tuesday.
The Black Bears got on the board first as junior Eli Cooper found the back of the net to put the Black Bears up 1-0.
"I made a nice pass to my teammate Cameron and he made a nice thru kick back to me for a goal," Cooper said. "I knew we were going to have a great season, I just didn’t know it was going to be this great."
The Black Bears extended the lead to 2-0 with 30:25 to go in the first half as Tanner Peterson scored off an assist by senior Parker Pederson.
"We knew we had a game plan for them coming in after they beat us last year," Black Bears coach Alex Ranguette said. "We knew we had to be strong and Eli had a hat trick and we got to play them again on Saturday."
With 22:45 to go in the first half Pederson made a nice shot that found the back of the net and the Black Bears led 3-0.
Cooper scored his second goal of the game with 19:10 to go in the first half to put the Black Bears up 4-0.
Ojibwe Charter got on the board with 3:00 to go in the first half as senior Caio Cora found the back of the net to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Big Bay junior Tanner Jenerou extended the Black Bears lead back to four on a goal with 30:21 to play in the game.
Cooper finished the hat trick as he scored with 24:00 remaining in the game as he took the ball over halfway down the field and scored the unassisted goal to put Big Bay up 6-1.
"It felt good to get the hat trick," Cooper said. "Now we have to secure these final games as we head into tournament play."
Big Bay will be back in action Saturday as they travel to Ojibwe Charter for the rematch.
