Black Bears dominate Bobcats in volleyball action

GARDEN CORNERS -- A big serving night proved to be too much for the Munising Baptist Bobcats here Tuesday night as they were swept in both games of a volleyball doubleheader. In game one the Black Bears won (25-22, 25-2, 25-10) and in game two the Black Bears won (25-7, 25-11, 25-10).
The Black Bears jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first set of game one on five aces by freshman Ivy Gates who finished with 19 on the night.
The Bobcats did fight their way back as they had a nine-point serving run with a pair of aces from freshman Hailey Hosteter to cut the deficit to 19-16 and even got the deficit to two at 24-22 before the Black Bears scored to win the set.
The second set was all Black Bears as they raced out to a 21-1 lead and won the set 25-2.
In the third set, Gates opened the game with three straight aces to put the Black Bears up 5-1. The Black Bears went on to win the set 25-10.
"We were happy we could get everyone into the rotation tonight," Black Bears coach Angie Carley said. "Some girls even played in positions they don't normally practice because you never know when there will be an injury or someone is sick and I think all our girls did a good job tonight."
The second game went the same course as the Black Bears opened the first set with a 13-0 lead and went on to take the set 25-7. Payton Pederson had three aces in the set and finished with 16 on the night.
The Black Bears closed out the second set 22-11 as freshman Kentlee DesJarden had a pair of aces to close out the set.
The third set was all Black Bears as well as they opened with a 6-2 lead and went on to take the set 25-10.
The Black Bears will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Beaver Island.
