Black Bears defeat Soaring Eagles in soccer action

GARDEN CORNERS -- The Big Bay de Noc soccer team improved to 5-0 as they defeated Hannahville 2-0 in a Northern Lights League contest here Tuesday.
The Black Bears had a few big scoring chances early as junior Tanner Peterson had a nice shot that was saved by Hannahville goalie Henry Williams with 32:46 to go in the first half.
Black Bears goalie Finley Morris came up with a big save with 28:36 to go in the first half on a shot by MJ Smith.
Black Bears senior Parker Pederson had a nice shot with 19:49 to go in the first half that was turned away by Williams.
With 7:44 to go in the first half Hannahville committed a penalty resulting in a penalty shot which Cooper missed high.
Pederson did find the goal with 3:28 to go in the first half to put the Black Bears up 1-0.
"Well I was right about on top of number 18 and saw an opening," Pederson said. "I kicked it as hard as I could and it deflected off a guy and rolled in."
Cooper found the back of the net with 23:08 to go in the game to put the Black Bears up 2-0. Junior Callie Miller was credited with the assist.
"I saw there was a throw in really close to the net," Cooper said. "Callie was throwing and she is really accurate throwing and I saw the ball between two people and Tanner made a nice ball fake and I saw the opportunity and took it inside with my foot."
Hannahville did get seven shots on goal in the contest but Morris saved all seven shots to preserve the shutout.
"I couldn't have done it without my defense," Morris said. "They were clicking tonight and didn't let them get any easy shots and it feels amazing to be 5-0."
The Black Bears host Munising Baptist on Tuesday after tying the game at 1-1 in Munising with :14 to go in the game and won it in a shootout. This game will be a massive game, coach Alex Ranguette stated.
"I told the guys after tonight's game that it was one of the most precise games we have played while I have been here," Ranguette said. "The communication, the passing, I told them if we play every game like that we can win every game we play."
Along with soccer Munising Baptist will have a volleyball doubleheader on Tuesday.
