August 24, 1966 -- Mel Manske and Jack Smith shot one-under-par 35s to lead the way in the Highland Golf Club Men's League. Paul DeBen hit 37 followed by Al Davidson, Dave Friets, Lanny Johnston and Jim Schultz at 39.
August 29, 1966 -- Chatham V&B Bar retained its Upper Peninsula Class men's softball title with a 2-0 victory over the Escanaba Teamsters. Jerry Seppi swatted a two-run double in the fifth inning and Cliff Johnson scattered six hits. Paul Miller and Jim Bruce lead the Teamsters with two hits apiece. Bill Baab took the loss despite tossing a two-hitter.
George LeBrasseur shattered the record in the Nahma one-club golf tournament by firing a 78. Runner-up J.C. Miller of Gladstone matched the old record at 81 and Dave Friets of Highland followed with 84.
Bob Iverson of Hyde won the modified stock feature race in a tough battle with Ed Pauley of Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. in stock car racing at the Upper Peninsula State Fairgrounds track. Iverson was also the fastest in time trials in 22.39 seconds. Pauley took the first heat and semifinal. Tom Warren of Ishpeming was the lone double-winner in the stock division, taking the first heat and semifinal and Duke Gardiner of Escanaba was the best in time trials at 26.23 seconds.
August 24, 1981 -- Gary Sharp and Scott Erickson earned medalist honors in the Highland Best Ball tournament with 135 strokes. Mike Zanon and Guy Larson of Norway and Jim Dufresne and Mickey Douglas of Highland shared the runner-up spot at 137.
August 26, 1981 -- Glen Pearson and Chet Faram shared medalist honors in the Escanaba Country Club Men's League with 37. Ralph Schilz carded a 38 and Bill Howe, John Sankovitch, John Zeni and Gerry Anderson hit 39.
August 27, 1981 -- Denise Boyle shot 45 for the best nine-hole round on Ladies Day at the Escanaba Country Club. Sis Annear was runner-up at 49.
August 28, 1981 -- Norm Queram, Dave Fassbender and Joe Moberg were the leaders in the Bluff Men's League at 38. They were followed by Herb Iverson, John Gilbert, Steve Bratonia, Gary Taylor, Wayne Owens and Ed Kuivinen with 39.
