MIDLAND -- Negaunee made its second trip to the Great Lakes Regional this time at the 13-14 year old age group. Last year Negaunee made it to the 10-12 Little League Great Lakes Regional in Wrightstown, Indiana and lost both games. The same team returned to the 13-14 regional this year in Midland, Mich. and won their first two games before dropping their next two games.
Negaunee defeated Wabash Ind. 8-6 and they followed that up with a 5-4 come from behind win over Kearney Neb. before falling 11-0 to Elmhurst Ill. and 13-0 against Whitefish Bay Wis.
In the Nebraska game, Triple Rodriguez hit an RBI-Single and Braylan Janssen doubled to score a run and put Nebraska up 2-0.
Negaunee scored a run in the bottom of the fourth inning as Johnny Juntti scored on a bad throw to cut the deficit to one.
Negaunee took the lead in the bottom of the fifth as Ben Pannanen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded after three consecutive walks to score a run and Gavin Hermes hit into a fielder's choice to score another run and Nathan Harvala had an RBI-Single to extend the lead to 4-2.
Kearney, Neb. cut into the deficit in the top of the sixth inning as Jaxson Helgoth grounded into a fielder's choice to cut the deficit to 4-3. Negaunee responded in the bottom half of the inning as Evan Cardinal scored on an RBI-Single by Eli Daavattila to put Negaunee up 5-3.
Nebraska got one in the top of the seventh inning and Braylen Janssen scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryker Landauer to cut the deficit to 5-4. Cooper Dreake drew a walk but Kyler Kretz grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
Negaunee had no answers for the team from Elmhurst and River Forest Ill. as they fell 11-0. Illinois got on the board in the top of the first as Tiago Rangel grounded out and Mario Iveljic flew out, each scoring a run to put Illinois up 2-0. An error, and a single by Tyler Welch helped Illinois extend their lead in the second inning.
Illinois added four runs in the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0.
Roshon Vitha singled to center and Jimmy Madden singled to the left side of the infield both hits produced runs.
In the game against Whitefish Bay, Wis., Negaunee surrendered eight runs in the fourth inning. Johnny Juntti pitched 3 ⅓ innings for Negaunee allowing eight runs on six hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
