KINGSFORD -- The Escanaba girls tennis team earned a split with the Kingsford Flivvers here Friday.
Escanaba picked up one win in singles action as Amelia Alimenti picked up the win over Kingsford's Chloe Lanning in three sets 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Amelia played the longest match of the day at nearly three hours," Eskymos coach Chris Ogren said. "For her third varsity match she showed tremendous composure and stayed calm even after losing the second set. She really adapted her game well throughout the match and that proved to be the difference in the end."
The Eskymos also saw the match No. 1 doubles go three sets but found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Escanaba's Sophie Hill and Isabella Noblet fell 6-1, 4-6, 2-6 against Kingsford's Mira Johnson and Kylee Woodward in three sets.
Escanaba's Claire Jacobsen and Lily Benetti hadn't played a close match this season but they were certainly tested today as they were forced to adjust their game to get the win. They began lobbing a little more and waiting for the right opportunities. In the end, they were able to take control in the third set and get the win.
Escanaba's Alexa DeGrand and Ava Jackson defeated Presley Pietrantonio and Arianna Fornetti 6-1, 2-2 at No. 4 doubles. And Escanaba's Anabel Niswonger defeated Claire Rutter and Alaysa Bacon.
