MARINETTE -- The Escanaba tennis team was in control of the match from the start here Monday as they defeated Marinette 6-1 with the match in Wisconsin the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) rules are observed where there are only three doubles matches instead of four in Michigan.
Escanaba's Anna Martin picked up the win at No. 1 singles defeating Marinette's Cora Parchim 6-2, 6-1. Escanaba earned a sweep in singles play. Escanaba's Varrah Veeser defeated Adeline Bantle 6-3, 6-2.
The highlight of the day came at No. 2 doubles as Escanaba's Claire Jacobsen and Lily Benetti adjusted their game after a close start in the first set to pull away with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Lily was extremely consistent on the baseline and Claire was hitting some strong serves and finishing at the net.
Marinette had one win on the day as Bianca Furton and Nora Clochesy held on to a 7-5 win in the first set against Escanaba's Sophie Hill and Isabella Noblet before cruising to a 6-0 win in the second set.
Escanaba, who faced Marquette and Ishpeming yesterday will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Gladstone.
