Norway and Tri-County eliminated four teams sill alive

NORWAY — Iron Mountain wasted no time as they ran away with a 23-3 win over Tri-County here Monday and Schaffer shutout Norway 6-0 in the second game.
In the first game, Iron Mountain scored nine runs in the first inning as Carson Mattson drew a lead-off walk and Weston Baij singled and both batters advanced on the throw. Hunter Leonoff drove a single into center field to score two runs and Brennan Fiorucci also drove in two runs with a double to put Iron Mountain up 4-0. Iron Mountain scored nine runs on eight hits in the first inning.
Leonoff drove in another run in the top of the second inning on an RBI-single for his second hit of the game.
“I think the game went well today,” Leonoff said. “We did a lot of good things today. We made some good plays and didn’t make a lot of errors.”
Leonoff drove in two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single. Iron Mountain collected 23 runs on 20 hits with only one man left on base.
Tri-County was able to push across three runs as Brady Dahm, Brady Klyk and Eli Artross scored the runs for Tri-County.
Schaffer took on Norway in the final game of the day. The two teams remained scoreless through the first two innings.
Schaffer scored four runs in the top of the third inning. Landon Bruce drove in the first run of the game on an RBI-single and scored on a single by Andon Norkoli and Maverick Mott later scored on a passed ball to put Schaffer up 3-0 and Jackson Erdody scored the fourth run of the inning for Schaffer.
“We hit the ball really well today,” Bruce said. “It was nice to have pitches we could get some solid hits off of just some tanks to the outfield and got some runs.”
Schaffer extended the lead in the top of the fourth inning as Bruce drew a bases loaded walk to bring in another run and Finn Bower scored a run in the top of the sixth inning.
Three pitchers Max Olson, Maverick Mott and Jackson Erdody worked together to give up only two hits in the game and combined for a total of 11 strikeouts.
