By Adam Hinch 2 min read

MARINETTE -- The Marinette Legion Post 39 team advanced to the state tournament with a 4-0 win over DePere here Thursday.

Marinette's Jake Farley threw a no-hitter over 6 ⅔ innings allowing one hit with 13 strikeouts and two walks.

"The nerves were on a little bit early on," Farley said. "After we got some runs up on the board I felt better and my team was there behind me and my catcher Klimek was up by me after every inning keeping me going."

Farley has a good mix of pitches and does a good job of keeping the batters guessing.

"My two-seam fastball was moving well," Farley said. "My slider cutting the opposite way was what I was most happy with."

Marinette put up the only four runs of the game in the top of the second inning as Levi Hanson doubled to bring in a run and Teagan Anderson had an RBI-single to put Marinette up 2-0 and Jake Farley scored on the throw to go up 3-0

Cooper Smith drove in the fourth run on a line drive single to center field.

Marinette had three hits in the contest, all of them came in the second inning.

"We played well as a team," Marinette coach Bria Lesandrini said. "It was a total team effort by all sides. We got hits when we needed them and came up with big defensive play at big moments in games."

Marinette will advance to the State Tournament in Marshfield Wis. Tuesday thru Saturday.

Starting at /week.
