2nd Annual Kids Fishing Day in Memory of Josh Soper continues to grow in 2026

ESCANABA -- The 2nd Annual Kids Fishing Day in Memory of Josh Soper took place on Saturday at Ludington Park. Over 50 kids of all ages took part in the event and all kids received a prize and had the opportunity to fish. There were also games for the kids and lunch was also provided.

The event moved to Ludington Park from the North Shore Boat Launch where it was held last year.

"We needed a lot more space," Mikki Soper said. "We had some organizational issues that we had to learn from to make it better this time."

The weather also improved this year after temperatures in the mid 90s last season this year had temps in the 70s with a nice breeze.

"It was super hot last year," Soper said. "The turnout was still good and is right around that number again this year."

Soper organized the event after her late husband Josh passed away in 2024.

"Josh loved fishing and being outdoors," Soper said. "Our first date was actually right here at Ludington park and I caught my first fish and so it's really full circle to be able to have the event here."

Soper also wanted to thank all the sponsors who supported the event stating that they are what made the event possible.
