Chance Harvey takes top spot in 8th Annual Stroke Awareness Run

ESCANABA — A brother-sister combo from Reed City, Michigan were among the leaders in the Eighth Annual Stroke Awareness Run here Saturday morning.

Reed City High School freshman Chance Harvey became the overall winner, covering the five-kilometer (3.1-mile) course in 19 minutes, 20 seconds.

“We came up here for a family outing,” he said. “The course is pretty good and so are the weather conditions. I started a little conservative, then picked up the pace a little in the second mile. I’m trying to get in shape for cross country.

John Bauman of Escanaba was runner-up at 19:36 and Hallee Harvey, who’s entering her senior year at Reed City placed third overall (22:30).

“I just went out fast and ran according to how I felt,” she said. “I thought this was a really nice day for running. I like the course. It’s nice and flat. It was well marked and the volunteers were helpful.”
