HARRIS — Sean Burton is about to continue his grid career in the Buckeye state.
The Bark River-Harris senior made that possible by signing a letter of intent to play football at NCAA Division 3 Wittenberg University in Ohio where he plans to major in sports management.
“I’m looking forward to getting into more depth in football and my studies,” he said. “They have a good educational and football program. I would like to become a coach.”
Burton, an All-Upper Peninsula Dream Team selection as a defensive lineman last fall, helped the Broncos reach the Division 8 state semifinals where they dropped a 40-0 decision to eventual state champion Harbor Beach.
At 6-foot-2, 270 pounds, Burton will be an offensive lineman for the Tigers this fall.
Burton, a two-way starter for the Broncos, says the Tigers will be running a different style of offense.
“I’ll be playing the same position which is going to help, but they spread out a little more than we do,” he said. “It’s going to be hard to adjust to being away from home. We’ll be playing against bigger guys who are pretty athletic. I should be getting a conditioning program from the university before long.”
BR-H coach Caleb Adams says the Tigers are getting a quality player.
“Sean has been in the weight room for the past four years,” he added. “He has good size and is a very technical player. He has been on varsity since his sophomore year. He’s an extremely intelligent player who moves well for his size. They’ll be running more offensive and defensive schemes. It’ll be a big jump up for him, but I think he’ll be able to do it.”
