Gladstone and Kingsford split softball doubleheader
KINGSFORD — Gladstone’s bats came alive in the second game of a softball doubleheader here Wednesday, salvaging a split with a 20-5 triumph over the Kingsford Flivvers.
The Braves dropped the opener 7-3.
Gladstone’s Addy Sanville blasted a two-run homer to centerfield. Bryn Larson ripped a two-run blast to left and Maddie Sundquist added a solo shot in the nightcap.
Lauren Pare and Malia Quigley scored in the second frame and the Braves pushed seven runs across on just two hits in the third.
Pare clubbed a two-run single and Sanville belted a grand slam in the third.
Sanville earned the mound victory, scattering four hits, striking out three and walking none.
The Braves collected 16 hits, including three by Pare. Quigley, Sundquist, Tiahna Reynolds and Emma Trombley also had multiple hits.
They also had patience at the plate as they accumulated six walks.
Mya Brunswick drove in two runs for the Flivvers and Hunter Deuter took the loss.
In the first game, Ava Goodman’s single helped the Braves tie the score at 1-1 in the third frame.
The Braves (12-4) took a 3-1 lead in the fourth on Sundquist’s home run to center and Trombley’s triple along the leftfield line.
Brunswick brought the Flivvers (5-10) within 3-2 on a solo homer to left in their half of the fourth.
The Flivvers tied the score on an error, then took a 4-3 lead on Jolie Fleming’s single along the leftfield line in the fifth.
Brunswick and Karly Trevillian drove in two runs each for Kingsford. Trombley had two hits for the Braves, who hosted Houghton in a twinbill Thursday.
Kingsford visits Hancock for a doubleheader today at 4. The Braves host the Flivvers in another twinbill Monday at 4:30 p.m.
