GLADSTONE — The Braves battled but ultimately came up short falling 6-2 to Escanaba here Tuesday.
The Braves had a stellar performance at No. 1 doubles as Teagan Reynolds and Tyler Soderman looked to be in mid-season form as they controlled every phase of their matchup against Escanaba’s Taylor Asgaard and Dominic Parlato 6-3, 6-1.
The Braves other win came at No. 2 singles as Chase Ketchum defeated Escanaba’s Chris Economopoulos 7-5, 6-0.
The No. 2 doubles match went the distance as Escanaba’s Logan Stephens and Abraham Perryman defeated Gladstone’s Nick Thill and Kristoff Stahlmann 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
“Logan showed real leadership on the court today,” Eskymos coach Alan Adams said. “He did a good job of guiding his partner through a challenging three set win and his experience on the court with problem solving shined today,”
The Eskymos picked up the win at No. 1 singles as Escanaba freshmen Chase Korpi defeated Gladstone’s James Blair 6-0, 6-1 and Brett Swanson of Escanaba picked up a convincing win at No. 3 singles as he defeated Henry Trottier 6-0, 6-0.
“Chase looked solid out there today against Gladstone,” Adams said. “This will give him a big boost of confidence as we move ahead in the season.
Escanaba, who faced Marquette on Wednesday, will host Munising today.
