Cougars pick up a win and tie in doubleheader with Bark River-Harris
BARK RIVER — A nine-run fourth inning proved to be too much for the Bark River-Harris Broncos as they dropped game one to Superior Central 16-4 and responded in game two ending on a 6-6 tie.
The Cougars got on the board in the top of the first when Eli Varma drew a walk to score a run. Aidan Korpi also brought a run in on a walk and Gavin Vining scored on a wild pitch to put the Cougars up 3-0 after one.
The Cougars added to their lead in the top of the second inning as Jaykob Dahm doubled down the left field line and Andrew Charlebois grounded out and Aidan Korpi singled to right field each scoring a run and extending the Cougars lead to 6-0.
The Broncos cut into the deficit as Kaleb Desilets reached on a dropped third strike that allowed Caleb Davis to score and Parker Motto singled to center field to score one and Gabe Spear had a two-run double to cut the deficit to 6-4.
In the fourth inning Ryder Kroupa drew a walk to score a run. Isaac Rondeau singled to score a run and Ryder Kroupa stole home on a passed ball and Charlebois had a double to score a run to highlight a nine-run inning for the Cougars.
In game two, The Cougars were first on the board. Rondeau stole third base then came home on a bad throw to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars added to their lead in the top of the second inning as Vining scored on an error by the catcher to take a 2-0 lead.
The Broncos responded in the bottom of the second as Samuel Varoni came through with a three-run single and Gabe Spear doubled on a fly ball to center to score a run and put the Broncos up 4-2.
In the top of the third, Valima drew a walk to score a run cutting the deficit to 4-3. Charlebois singled on a ground ball to score a run in the top of the fourth inning and Brandon Boyak singles, scoring one and giving the Cougars a 6-4 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Spear hit a two-run double to tie the game at six. The game was called after six innings due to darkness.
