Braves rally to defeat Knights

NORWAY — After having their game against Norway postponed a day and moved to Norway, the Gladstone Braves took the diamond looking for their second win of the season and got it, defeating the Knights 10-6 here Wednesday.

The Braves got to work quickly as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning as Aiden Burie, Cooper Sanville and Carter Sanville all drew walks to load the bases. Vinny Rebholz grounded into a fielder’s choice as Burie was thrown out at the plate and Nick Phroehl struck out swinging Braylon Carter picked up where he left off in the last game in Mauston Wis. where he was 3 for 5 at the plate, delivering a three-run double to put the Braves up 3-0.

The Knights got one run in the bottom of the first inning as Cameron Varda scored on a flyout by Owen Baij.

In the top of the third inning, Xavier Leipzig drew a bases loaded walk to put the Braves up 4-1.

The Knights erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third inning as Cameron Varda drew a walk and Maddex Burklund doubled on a line drive to left field, scoring Varda. Owen Baij reached on an error and Carter Cazzola laid down a bunt and reached on an error, scoring Baij. After Elliott Kraemer scored on a wild pitch, Kellan Amundson singled on a ground ball to short, scoring one and putting the Knights in front 6-4.

Cooper Sanville singled on a line drive in the top of the fourth inning to score a run to cut the deficit to 6-5.

In the sixth inning, Carter Sanville singled on a line drive to second scoring a run and Rebholz doubled scoring two putting the Braves up 8-6.

The Braves added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh to give the Braves extra insurance runs.

The Braves are scheduled to return to action today for a doubleheader against Ironwood.
