Gold Medal Classic Class A championships plus Hall of Fame took center stage this weekend

HERMANSVILLE — This weekend Class A teams took the floor in both men’s and women’s action as well as the Hall of Fame induction that took place on Saturday.

Dexter’s team came away with the Class A championship as they defeated Contemporary Builders 72-49 Kyle Monroe led the way for Dexter’s with 35 points while Trent Bell added 15. Isaiah Johnson led the way for Contemporary Builders with 24 points.

Dexter’s advanced to the championship after winning games against R-Place 76-61. Monroe led the team with 19 points and they survived eight 3-pointers by Joe Lachapelle who finished with 28 points for R-Place.

Dexter’s also earned a 71-53 victory over Greenwood where Bryan Heath led the way with 19 points.

Dexter’s also defeated Wagner Casper 69-68 in a thriller Monroe led all scorers with 42 points.

Contemporary Builders advance to the championship by scoring the most points of any team in the tournament and the only team to hit the century mark in a 105-70 victory over Wendricks Truss Isaiah Johnson led the way with 28 points while hometown legend Jason Whitens added 23 and Brett Branstrom had 20.

They also defeated Advantage Sports 79-68 in which Isaiah Johnson set this year’s tournament record with 10 3-pointers finishing with 38 for the game.

Jason Whitens used a 31-point effort to push the Builders past Greenwood in a 59-55 contest and also defeated Wagner Casper 76-61.

In Women’s action it was Hometown Physical Therapy that took the championship over the Gen Z team 60-28. Anna Axtell led the way with 16 points and Lillie Johnson added 15.

The tournament also inducted six people into its Hall of Fame including Michelle Bal from Carney who stated that this tournament is a big thing for the local community.

“I didn’t know they had a Hall of Fame,” Bal said. “Thi torment has a lot of backing and it is always fun to come here and spend time with friends and people in our community that is what makes this tournament special.

Lee Vincent was also inducted this year Vincent began playing in 1971 when he was a senior in high school and played into his 50’s.

“It was just Class A and B at that time,” Vincent said. “You look at how this has involved into all the classes including junior high. It’s really is a special tournament for this community and for the other local communities that participate as well.”

Tom Granquist was also inducted this season. Tom has been involved in this tournament as a player official whatever needs to be done Tom is there to help.

Other inductees include Kurt Ekberg, Daye Murray and Brian Lindeman.

The Gold Medal Classic concludes tonight in Hermansville with give games starting at 5 p.m. central time at the Frank Rodman Community Club.
