SAULT STE. MARIE — The Manistique girls opened their track and field season the way they wanted, earning top honors in the Fifth Annual Yooper Invitational here Saturday.

Manistique scored 91 points, followed by Pickford 71 and Kalkaska 54 inside the Norris Center at Lake Superior State University.

The Charlevoix boys ran away with the title by scoring 147½ points. They were followed by Kalkaska 98½ and Rudyard 57½.

Manistique junior Aaliyah Sears won the girls’ 55-meter dash in 7.91 seconds and 400 at 1:05.91 and senior Gwen Brewster added a first in shot put with a toss of 32 feet, 1½ inches.

Emeralds’ freshman Leah Joslin was runner-up in the 55 hurdles (10.35). Senior Maya Carlson placed third in long jump (13-7¾) and freshman Harper Anderson did likewise in the 200 (29.99).

Junior Sam Moose was the highest finisher for the Manistique boys, taking second in shot put (45-4¼).

The Emeralds are idle until April 16 when they compete in the Gladstone Invitational.
