NEGAUNEE — Turnovers and miscues put the Gladstone Braves in a hole they could not dig themselves out of as they fell 60-52 to Negaunee here Tuesday.

“We were down nine points and started to battle our way back,” Braves coach Jake Keisby said. “But anytime we started to get a rhythm going we would have a turnover or some kind of unforced error that Neagaunee capitalized on and we also missed a lot of rebounds giving them second chance opportunities. If you can’t rebound the basketball you can’t win basketball games.”

A pair of scoring runs helped the Miners seize control of this matchup as The Miners trailed 24-22 when they went on an 11-0 run to take a 33-24 lead, Waylon Harvala, Easton Guenette and Tristan Slater each had a 3-pointer during the scoring run.

The second run came in the fourth quarter as the Braves had cut the deficit to one at 42-41. Negaunee Junior Brayden Gleason drove to the basket for the basket and the foul. Slater capped off the run with three layups and finished with 20 points in the contest.

The Braves did get off to a fast start as Lonnie Davey knocked down a 3-pointer and Will Inghram hit a mid-range jumper to put the Braves up 5-3.

Slater knocked down his second 3-pointer of the game to put the Miners up 6-5.

Gladstone took the lead back in the second quarter as Alex Prins connected from downtown to put the Braves up 18-16. Prins had seven of his 20 points in the second quarter.

The Braves were led by sophomore Prins with 20 points and Davey added 15.

The Braves won the JV game 47-42 as Landon Davey led the way with 19 points. Jack Prins finished with 14 points including the last six Braves points to secure the win.

“I feel comfortable at the free throw line,” Jack Prins said. “I feel confident to knock those shots down every time I get there and we play fast and try to speed up our opponents and hope they can’t handle it.”

The Braves return to action Friday as they host Menominee.
