ESCANABA — The Bay College women’s game against North Central Michigan College (NCMC) was never in doubt as the Norse rolled to a 96-38 victory here Wednesday.

Bay College sophomore Mckenzie Hoffmeyer scored a layup and Lauren Zawada drove to the basket for the basket and a foul and converted the free throw. Hoffmeyer took the ball on a nice drive thru the lane for a layup to put the Norse up 7-2.

Hoffmeyer led the way for the Norse with 25 points, eight steals and six rebounds. Zawada had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Nina Bower had 17 points off the bench and Gracie Kleikamp had 12 points off the bench.

“We came out foccused,” Bay coach James Fassett said. “This was the first game of the second round of conference games, so we just wanted to establish and set a tone for the rest of the season and think we did a good job of that tonight.”

The Norse led 26-12 after the first stanza then outscored the Timberwolves 17-9 in the second quarter highlighted a 3-pointer to open the quarter by Hoffmeyer and a 3-pointer by Bower with 2:31 to play in the first half.

The Norse kicked the door shut in the third quarter as they outscored (NCMC) 35-9 to take a 78-30 lead after three.

“Mckenzie was big for us on the defensive side of the ball,” Fassett said. “She is always around the ball looking to get steals force teams into bad passes that lead to turnovers then pays it off on the offensive side of the ball.”

Bay College shot 39 percent from the floor compared to the Timberwolves who shot 32 percent. The big stat was 35 turnovers by the timberwolves compared to only six on the Norse.

The Norse will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to play Montcalm Community College.
