Bark River-Harris and Escanaba compete on Coldwater Invite

COLDWATER, Mich. — Bark River-Harris gymnast Lucy Baumgartner was in contention for top all-around honors, but narrowly missed first place in the Coldwater Stick it For a Cure Invitational here Saturday.

Saline’s Amelia Lorch was crowned champion with 33.7 points, edging the senior from Iron Mountain by .05 point. Brooklyn Hunt of Jackson A placed third at 33.575.

Saline copped the team title with 134.65 points, followed by Jackson A 132.725 and Lowell 131.275.

Escanaba placed fifth at 125.275 and BR-H took seventh with 119.7.

Esky sophomore Lily Benetti took eighth (32.175). followed by freshman Rayne Martin in 11th (31.9), junior Sophie Hill 13th (30.875) and senior Hayden Turchin 15th (30.325).

Baumgartner, a senior at Iron Mountain, placed fourth on the balance beam with 8.625 points, tied for fourth with Lowell’s Jordan Velzan on floor exercise (8.725) and shared seventh with Hunt in vault (8.625).

Hill placed seventh on floor (8.69) and Martin took eighth (8.575).

Benetti finished ninth on beam (8.15) and Martin was 10th (8.125).

Both teams have qualified for the MHSAA regional at Rockford Feb. 28.

Area individual qualifiers include Baumgartner, Turchin, Hill, Martin and esky sophomore Sophie Young.

Esky won Friday’s triangular meet at Grand Ledge and BR-H was runner-up with a qualifying score of 124.25.

The Eskymos host their invitational Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose gym.
